About

Pay bills with friends
Context
Bill splitting at dinner in Nigeria is tough because:
- Culturally, there's often an expectation for one person to pick the bill.
- People can be uncomfortable about money, so when splitting requires calculation, someone just offers to pick the bill.
- POS payment failures are common, so people are generally reluctant to try more than one payment at a time.
- When one person pays, paying back can easily get messy...."how much do I send", "what's your account number" e.t.c.
- Apps like Splitwise let you record and split transactions but they’re not integrated for local payments.

Idea
Dotch is an app for splitting bills with friends. The assumption is that one person (the host) pays and everyone else refunds them.
- Dotch connects directly to bank accounts to send and receive money.
- One person (host) picks the bill and others repay them using Dotch.
- The host sets up the sharing formula for the bill and invites friends.
- Friends get a notification to approve the bill.
- Once the bill is approved, Dotch deducts from friends and credits the host.
